The America Fidel Castro Hoped For
Andy Snyder|May 11, 2023
Our great nation was founded by outlaws. Now it looks like it will be undone by outlaws.
One group risked their necks for freedom. The other risks your freedom to save their necks.
Each time we dare to dig into the news, we’re slapped with the state of our republic. Grand juries are working overtime. District attorneys are pumping out charges. And judges, well, it sounds like they’re cruising the world with donors.
We’re in trouble.
We’ve long warned folks about the nasty reversion to the mean. Given enough time, all things become equal. When you’re on top… it’s devastating news.
The middle isn’t so grand.
Several years ago, we got ourself in trouble by writing about the idea of a “third-world America.” Folks didn’t want to hear it.
And yet… here we are.
Our cities are dangerous. Big-name stores are nailing plywood to their doors and closing up shop. It’s too dangerous, they say. The criminals have won.
Former presidents are getting cuffed… the current one is involved in bribery scandals… and there are threats against the folks who dare run to change it all.
Soon enough, we’ll need a new high-security wing added to our federal prisons – one to house the growing ranks of former lawmakers who put their hand on the Bible and lied to us all.
It’s sad.
Since 2020, some 59 elected officials have been arrested across 24 states. In Illinois alone, five state legislators were convicted of either fraud, tax evasion or bribery.
In Ohio, the speaker of the House was charged with racketeering.
Is this the America Thomas Jefferson yearned for… or is it the America Fidel Castro hoped for? We’re tossing bombs at the splinter in Russia’s eye… while ignoring the log in our own.
To think it all wouldn’t spill into our financial markets would be equal parts naive and ignorant.
The Biggest Threat
The latest polling shows trust in the system is at record lows. A Fed chief has never had lower marks than Jay Powell’s.
And why would we expect things to be any different? The truth and the consequences of it all are clearly in front of us, but the folks in charge stick to their script and pump us full of lies and distortions.
Most folks dare not to ponder it for themselves.
The current generation is going to have no idea that the phrase “trumped up charges” was uttered long before the 45th president took his oath. They’ll have no idea that it doesn’t start with a capital “T.”
Think what you will… but it ain’t healthy.
We’ve long said our government and its actions are the biggest threat to our financial security.
The events of the last decade have proven us correct.
We can gripe about it. We should. Be we must also do something about it. Investing blindly is no cure. Doing things the way they’ve always been done will just dig your hole deeper.
Given their will, the markets always find a way. Just this week, we heard from an analyst who isn’t worried about Russia’s latest meddling in grain markets. The market, he says, has already found its solution.
As investors, we must know the facts. And, just as importantly, we must not deny them with political bias.
We must be as blind to politics as that ol’ lady holding the scales of justice. If we are, we can make the right choices. We can see the right moves to make.
And we’ll be freer and safer because of it.
The government will never grant you freedom. That’s not its job.
But it can take it away.
Don’t let it.
