What’s Right Is Hardly Ever Easy

|April 16, 2020

This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.

You’re reading it.

Creating an alternative voice for folks concerned about their health has been a daunting process.

At times, frankly, it’s felt impossible.

The red tape… the restrictions on what we can publish… the sorts of things we can advertise… I’ve never had so many sleepless nights.

But what’s easy is hardly ever right.

And what’s right is hardly ever easy.

A Better Time?

The last six weeks have been hell on this nation, her people and her freedoms. But it’s exactly the kick in the pants that’s needed to keep me and my team pushing forward.

When it comes to our health, the message in America is clear. The powers that be want just one voice.

Nowhere have I experienced the rights of the First Amendment more withered and corrupted. One slip of our pen, one unvetted source… and the door could get a knock.

But this damned virus has come as an odd ally.

It’s forcing the nation to decide what’s fact and what’s fiction. It’s forcing even the most sheepish of citizens to look at the shepherds in control and wonder if the old boy with the crook hasn’t been chatting with the wolf.

We’ve seen it play out firsthand… right there under the bright lights of the White House’s press room.

The president tells the world to open its mind… that untested times call for untested measures.

But the docs who make a living not with a bloody scalpel, but with bloody red tape hang their heads and try not to smirk.

Lives may have been saved, they admit. There may be hope, they’ll tell the cameras. But the system has a system… and that system takes time.

We’ll never know who’s right and who’s wrong.

And that’s good enough for them.

Not For Us

When it comes to our health, we’re told, there’s room for just one voice.

I don’t believe it for a second.

Thankfully, our readers have reassured us we’re on the right path.

Every day, I receive notes of hope… notes of skepticism of the system… and, most important, notes packed with truth.

We’ll get some things wrong. We’ll step out of bounds every now and then. And we’ll likely be dragged through the mud by the regulators.

But if we don’t, who will?

I’ve spent my entire career focused on money. I know the freedom it brings. I know the light it can shine on a life.

Wealth is security.

But so is our health.

And drip by drip, little by little, we’re losing sight of the importance of the freedom and power that come with controlling our own health.

For sure, a cancer diagnosis is scary… and perhaps deadly.

It’s not the time to mess around.

The bad news means taking advantage of the latest technology, the latest medicine and the latest thoughts.

But there’s so much more to our health than just the big scary stuff. And there are so many angles to the scary stuff that few folks dare to talk about… like prevention.

Alternative Voices

As a nation, we’ve grown complacent. We do as we’re told… suck down the pills put in our hands… and roll up our sleeves and close our eyes as the doc pokes us with another needle.

Most folks never stop and ask why.

I know… because that’s been me.

The press is supposed to serve as a check on the system.

These days, the press has become a mouthpiece for the system – tuning out when things go off script.

Our local news outlet has featured a video from the governor at the top of its website for the last three weeks. There’re no pictures from the front lines… no interviews from the other side… no checks… no balances.

It’s merely another outlet for carefully caressed press releases from the folks minding the flock.

Pardon my roots… but that ain’t right.

We’ll lose sleep. We’ll get slapped around.

But if we do our job… you won’t have to.

P.S. Practical Health Today‘s expert panelist Dr. Phil Roberts just published his thoughts on politics, medicine and the crazy fight over the drug Trump has been touting… hydroxychloroquine. We’ve never gotten some much feedback and attaboys for a piece. Click here to read this eye-opening essay.
